Daily Prompt: Unfinished

The door slammed behind him with a force that made me jump. Not the best way to start this day I thought, as I picked up the broken pieces of my grandmother’s crystal vase. I know it wasn’t intentional. It’s not like he had pushed it off the hall table in anger, his coat had accidentally brushed the vase as he grabbed for his keys. I doubt he even noticed; his hurry that great that he missed my lips and kissed my eye as he rushed past me.

What was this unfinished business he had to attend to? It was Sunday after all, our ‘nothing’s that urgent it can’t wait’ day! Where was he going? When would he be back? I paused and smiled to myself, knowing that it had nothing to do with unfinished business and everything to do with the fact that he had just realised it was our wedding anniversary, and it seems he had forgotten to order my annual bouquet of red roses!



I find writing, playing with fiction especially, to be a great escape from the busyness of life, which is why I enjoy participating in Daily Prompts when I have the time.
