The Grumpy Grinch
I’m feeling a bit exhausted by the thought of Christmas?
My Christmas wish this year is that I maintain a little sanity; as I try to focus on love and peace, while in a mad panic – I drive 100 or more kilometres in a round trip to catch up with all those I love, in one day, and somehow manage to keep the kids, husband, and this year – our dog, in a good mood so we can all enjoy a very Merry Christmas…Phew, it’s tiring just thinking about it!
I often wonder how much easier it would be if we didn’t put so much pressure on December 25! What if we celebrated peace, love and family – randomly! Unless celebrating for purely religious reasons, let’s choose to celebrate several times throughout the year instead and take the pressure off. I can’t help but think; if Christmas day is the only day we can truly make an effort to be together – what do we do with the other 364?
I Know, I know – I need to shake of the Christmas Grinch, get some sleep, watch Love Actually (my favourite Christmas movie), do some Christmas shopping and relax…because I do love Christmas, it’s really just the hectic lead up and the thought of some ghosts of Christmas past that get to me at this time every year!
The Festive Fairy
Tis the season to be Merry, meals together and lot’s of sherry!
What’s not to love about getting together with family at Christmas? Trimming the tree, driving around in our *Christmas Beetle on Christmas Eve looking at the Christmas lights, watching Polar Express with the kids while eating chocolate mousse (it’s too hot in Australia for hot, hot chocolate) Sitting around the Christmas tree on Christmas morning watching sleepy eyed children become wide eyed with excitement as they open Santa’s presents.
Whose heart doesn’t nearly burst when visiting family, watching the pride and joy in the Nan & Pops faces as their families gather around, all of us sitting around tables laden with good food and lots of cheer? Then finally, we tuck the children and/or ourselves into bed at the end of a long and joyful day, wondering where we are going to put all the presents that need to be put away.
Christmas comes but once a year
Now it’s here, now it’s here
Bringing lots of joy and cheer
Tra la la la la
…and then we get to do it all again next year 🙂
However you spend your Christmas, or The Holiday Season if Christmas is not a part of your celebrations, I hope you are surrounded by love, peace and happiness as you make your way to the New Year dawning. Be Happy, stay safe and remember – Life is good and hope is limitless!
